Makeup is an art, and if you’re new to the world of makeup, you’ll probably find yourself watching famous beauty influencers on Youtube. Of course, with any type of art, it can take time to perfect - and makeup is no exception. For this reason, beauty hacks can be a lifesaver for any makeup lover.
From the best ways to apply your mink lashes, to the best time to apply your dry shampoo. We’ve tried and tested some of our favourite beauty hacks to share them with our Lick & Lash customers. So that anyone (yes, including you!) can perfect your beauty regime and look fleeky, all day long. So grab your makeup bag and let’s get started!
1. Bold brows
If you’re looking for bold, powerful brows, the first thing you’ll need is a creamy brow pomade or a brow powder. To really make your brow pomade ‘pop’, dive into your makeup brush set and find an angled brush.
You’ll then want to dampen the bristles of your angled brush and continue applying your chosen brow pomade. The colour will be much stronger and your brows will be bold, powerful and fleeky!
2. Reviving dry mascara
No matter how well you keep your favourite mascara, you’ll always end up with the wand becoming dry with oxidisation. Before you chuck it in the bin, there are several ways you can revive it to get the very last of the product.
The first chance you notice your mascara drying out, leave it in a mug of hot water for 15 minutes to liquidise the product inside. Another handy tip is to pour a few drops of saline solution (or your eye drops) into the tube.
3. Avoid stained lips
For those of us who prefer to wear deeper colours, you’ll relate to the hassle of having stained lips, no matter how hard you try to scrub off the colour at the end of the day. This is why most of us tend to opt for a trusty nude liquid lipstick.
One beauty hack to avoid stained lips is to add a small amount of foundation to the lips before applying your lipstick. This sets your lipstick but makes it super easy to remove with a quick swipe of micellar water or a makeup wipe.
4. Prolonging your blow-dry
If you’re a fan of having a professional blow-dry, you’ll relate to the feeling of walking out of a salon with a gorgeous, bouncy blow-dry. However, your hair never looks as bouncy and as full the day after a blow-dry. Surprisingly, this might be down to your pillowcase.
A pillowcase creates friction and unwanted frizz, so you might want to consider changing your pillowcases if you’re a frequent blow-dryer. Silk pillowcases reduce frizz and friction when you’re moving around at night, which prolongs your blow-dry so that you can enjoy the benefits for even longer.
5. Salon hair at home
Have you ever noticed that your hair never feels as nice when you wash it yourself at home, compared to when it’s washed by a hairstylist in a hair salon? Whilst this is due to the professional hair products used in a salon, it’s also down to the hair-washing technique!
A neat beauty hack is to shampoo your hair twice, before adding conditioner. You’ll notice the difference during the second shampoo, as your hair really lathers up. The first shampoo gets rid of any dirt and product from your hair, whilst the second shampoo cleans and freshens your luscious locks. When your hair is completely dry, you can genuinely feel the difference!
6. Applying false lashes
After plenty of practice, mink lashes can be effortlessly applied without any struggle and last all day long. However, if you’re a beginner to applying false lashes, you might find that the inner corner doesn’t stick down, they both look uneven or you may have forgotten to trim the lashes before applying them straight onto your lash line.
If you’ve had a read of our recent blogs, you’ll know how to apply your 3D mink lashes. Although if you struggle with initially getting your lash to sit in place during application, you might want to try out this handy hack.
Rather than applying your lash adhesive to the lash, it might be easier to apply it straight onto your lash line. This means that the lash can only stick to the lash line, and won’t stick anywhere else. If your mink lashes have a larger band, you might want to consider applying a smooth, fleeky swoop of eyeliner to disguise the band.
7. Squeaky clean brushes
When it comes to the dreaded time of cleaning your makeup brushes, you’ll be shocked at how much makeup and residue accumulate over a short period of time! There are many gizmos and gadgets out there which will help in the cleaning process.
However, the best way of cleaning your makeup brushes without damaging them is to use a gentle shampoo. We recommend using a baby shampoo, which will leave your brushes feeling soft and fluffy!
8. Silky smooth legs
For those of us with sensitive skin, we’ve all been there! You’re shaving your legs with your trusty razor, then all of a sudden you accidentally cut yourself. The best way to avoid this is to take your time and to try out different razors to see which works best for your skin. The cheaper razors always result in bright red rashes and legs full of cuts, so it really does help to pay a little extra.
A handy tip for those with sensitive skin is to use conditioner rather than shaving foam. This is gentle on the skin and reduces the risk of nasty cuts. You’ll really notice the difference in how soft your skin is as well as the silky smoothness of your shave.
9. Summer shimmer
If you’re looking for that perfect summer shimmer glow, your go-to is most likely going to be your pressed powder highlighter. Highlighters are perfect for adding a glow in areas where the sun would naturally hit our skin, therefore creating the illusion of brightness on your skin.
If you’re looking for an all-round glow, mixing a small amount of highlighter in with your liquid foundation can give you a dewy glow, ready for the summer months. This hack is perfect for the festival season and summer holidays!
10. Applying dry shampoo at night
If you’re like many of us, you’ll understand how much of a godsend dry shampoo can be on those days we’re in a rush to get out of the house. The only issue with dry shampoo is that it doesn’t last long and needs replacing very frequently, particularly if your hair is thick or long.
We recommend applying dry shampoo the night before, as it gives the dry shampoo the chance to get worked into the hair as you move in your sleep. When you wake up, you’ll be left with voluminous, clean, and fresh hair.
